Recently i upgraded my camera equipment and needed to test it out. heard if from a friend that 1999 – The Legacy of Prince was playing at T’s. T’s can be a bit of a challenge and historically, i go to see bands, not photograph them. while the lighting has gotten better, it wasn’t an ideal place to shoot bands.
Perfect. If you’re going to see what your equipment can do, don’t make the first test easy, ya know?
T’s was filling up and tables became scarce long before the band took the stage. hell, their audience for sound check was having a great time already.
Sound check passes and the band hits the greenroom to get ready, the audience was getting ready also. Dancing in the aisles already under way, you could feel the energy building.
lights up, band back out and Prince (Danny Allen) hits the stage and lights a fire to the crowd. The music of Prince has always been high energy and those are some big shoes to fill. Danny took on the challenge and delivered song after song. The band kept pace and song after song you went back to some incredible times when the artist was still with us.
Purple Rain (the movie) is an iconic example of its time and something we all know and remember so well. Included in the movie memory was his feud with Morris Day. To complete the memory Friday night, Morris Day (Earl Landry) made the scene and took things to a whole new level.
In all, you couldn’t ask for a better Prince experience than 1999. Check out their website and see when they play again and do yourself a favor, check ’em out.
And bring a lot of energy.0
