There are some photo shoots in the pit that simply stand out. Some because of who the bands are, others because of the personal interaction WITH the band. Last Saturday night as Judas Priest closed out the North America portion of the Invincible Shield tour in Irving, TX, I got both. It’s nights like that which make concert photography the amazing experience it can truly be.
ChipsterPR has always been amazing to work with and they once again came through for us with the photo pass and Live Nation was as hospitable as ever for what was I believe a dozen of us photographers to escort around.
Toyota Music Factory in Irving, TX is always an amazing shoot. Roman and the Live Nation staff is always welcoming to media and out there with us having a great time in the pit.
As a photographer, you usually get (3) songs in the pit and you’re out. While last Saturday night was no exception, I’d not trade those 3 songs for anything else in the venue. The best seat in the house, your camera, and one hell of a time. Especially with Judas Priest on stage.
Now, the 3 songs I got to shoot were Panic Attack, You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’, and Rapid Fire. To be honest, you kinda go into a zone that close to legends. I do, anyway. You know time is limited and you want that KILLER shot, but there isn’t a show like this I won’t drop my camera and jam. Horns up, tongue out, and loving life.
What I didn’t count on what Scott Thomas, the drummer, giving me a personal pose. WOW!
You only get 3 songs, and they can go fast. However, even at 75, Rob Halford, with legendary style and grace, give you his all every time. The rest of the band also puts on a show, and you can’t help but get some killer shots.
At least, I hope I did.
The night drew to a close for us photographers as “Rapid Fire’ finished, and an incredible evening of legendary metal music came to an end. Well, that part anyway. Next up you go home and wade through hundreds of pictures to find the few that stand out.
