jury duty in denton co

today i had to appear and present myself for jury duty. the 1st time I did this I was brought into a medical malpractice case and when the plantiffs attorney asked me if i had any history here, i said yes, my father was a hospital administrator for 25 years and now is a professional witness for many of these cases and i've helped him with his businss at times.

next time i just didn't get called. YAY ME!

now i got called, tagged to be in a jury at 1:30 so i came home for a bit to chill and now headed back to a new smaller courthouse to hear a case from the justice of the peace.

my saving grace here is that these don't take long from what i hear. and i hope so, traffic will SUCK DONKEY BALLS if i have to head back this way after 4pm.

My wife was called for jury duty last month in a county we have not lived in for 12 years. They said they never purge people from the rolls. She can still vote in both counties if she was so inclined.

wow. my reply went bye bye.

anyway - i got to the couthouse and checked in. i was #10 of 12 potential jurors where 6 are needed. we had an official lawyer for the property mgt place and the person about to be evicted was representing herself.

basically, she'd not made house payments for 18 months. odd things she said were:

1) in the past when we fell behind we'd get a notice and put it in the mix and do the best we could to catch back up. so you do this a lot do you?
2) the mailbox to her home was "knocked over" and she couldn't put it back up. didn't have the money or know how to dig a hole adn put a pole in it. but she was able to get a PO Box to change her address. only the mortgage company and lawyer never got the new address.
3) she said she only got a notice something was wrong early this month when she got served.

woman, you've not made a payment in 18 months - does someone have to tell you there's a problem here?

in any event, only 1 of the 1st 7 was excused for language issues so i got to go home here and no idea of the outcome.

i didn't care for the lawyer - he just oozed slime for the most part in how he laughed off everything the woman was saying and objecting to settlement conversation as they were pastthat.

interesting experience.
