My two cents? (Uh, oh, me and my two cents again) ... this was probably directed from above the City Manager level, behind the scenes. The purpose? End-around of self-defense laws. I said almost immediately that the basic right to self-defense would be targeted as "racist" and whatnot in order to push the larger agenda not only of disarmament (conceal carry to name but one), but the fundamental natural right to defend oneself in the face of a threat without (or at least with less) fear of then being hauled in front of a panel of Monday morning quarterbacks who spend weeks pouring over facts, as well as non-facts, in order to second-guess all of your decisions made in the heat of the moment when milliseconds count. The end-around is simple: police chiefs and officers are now to fear for their jobs if they do not make arrests and file charges in self-defense cases. Oh, sure, Trayvon's case isn't so clear cut. Precisely what they need to get their foot in the door. Before you know it, a homeowner will shoot an armed hom invader and be arrested and charges filed. "Let the courts settle it". "Tell it to the judge".
It's the same as "Fast & Furious": Secretely ship weapons to the cartels via straw buyers shuffled into gun stores, the ATF ordering gun stores to make the sales to suspicious characters under threat of presecution and yanking of their FFL. When the guns turn up at crime scenes in Mexico or on/near our border cry that "kids are getting killed by your easy access to firearms", all the while keeping your DOJ/ATF operation shipping those guns quiet. Nice premise for a UN Small Arms Treaty, or allowing Mexico to sue US gun manufacturers into oblivion. Well, that and Soros investing heavily in some strange "Freedom Group" who go out and buy up as many gun manufacturers as they can (DPMS, Remington to name but two). Gun grabbers buying gun companies under a private equity firm founded for that purpose? And complete with an Orwellian anti-name? Oh, you mean that when F&F had done its work, those gun grabbers could direct their wholy owned gun manufacturers in their portfolios to stop making semi-autos chambered in military calibers? Maybe stop making replacement parts for same so old guns in the system would go away by attrition? This way the administration can step back and show their "clean" hands ... it was Mexico that sued your gun manufacturers into either bankruptcy or skyrocketing product prices. It was the "free market' (Freedom Group) who "took the responsible initiative" to stop making semi-autos. I had *nothing* to do with it...
