so you want to start a radio station?

updated 4/6/17 Between people coming to Renegade, finding us on facebook (yea, right. People are too busy showing off their lunch to give a damn who else is out there) or being involved in discussion groups such as linked in and so forth, I see a lot of people asking “man, help me setup a radio station!” One of my first questions back is “why”? Oddly enough that stops a lot of people in their tracks. You're really looking at a very expensive hobby and by expensive, I mean the ability to stream music is going to be $720 a year an up. that's just for the rights to do that and going through strea...

craving strange - a life exceptional

"Dirty Rock"  kicks off the release with one hell of a groove.. You can't help but want to dance in your seat with that deep, gutteral bass line from Tommy Wendt.. Then it's all guns blazing as  you've got the Anthem-like  "Your Last Day Alive" .  "Here and Gone"  is one that sticks out as well  - Catchy rhythm & Passionate lyrics all in a tight package. Then there's the title track,  "A Life Exceptional"  which SCREAMS crowd-pleaser - and that's not a bad thing.  "Do You Remember"  has possibly some of the most powerful lyrics on th...

the bright - objects of my affection

coming off a rare "10" rating from their last cd, "in lucid dreams", the bright is back with "objects of my affection", a release that to a point completes the teaser cd "Diamonds in the Snow" which contained 4 early tracks (charmed, deep fall, how i feel and save the night) and then ever so much more.   Comprised of a group of talented musicians, The Bright* is: Julie Lange (vocals), Miguel Fair (bass), Robert Yahne (drums), Kell Curtis (guitar),Taylor Tatsch (guitar/backing vocals), Eric Jenkins (keys/producer) (stolen directly from their website. - Check it out - The Brights Website). ...

Static Fiction - On Your Mind

Nothing says true love like bat shit.    Meet Static Fiction. They‘re a pop punk band from of Huntington Beach, California that wants to accomplish everything they ever wanted in the music industry. One of those things is the goal to record the best pop punk album of all time. To work towards this goal, they really wanted to get Ryan Greene to produce some of their tunes. So how do you get one of the greatest punk rock producers of all time to notice your band? Let’s just say that after much clever thinking, copious amounts of enthusiasm, lots of hard work, and countless hours of hop...

The New Marvel Universe

The New Marvel Universe
Attention comic readers! It's completely possible that the combination of the Marvel comic realities could be a disaster.  Using my favorite childhood comic Spider-Man as an example, he had at least four seperate comics running in the 90's.  Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man and a weekly comic strip... and none of those effected the other. As of now... there will be one Spider-Man in the larger MCU...  and that's better, for now. Actions will have larger consequences that will ripple and effect other characters.  In addition, there are new faces to the ...

A "Take" On Electronic Rock: The Musical Style of The Taking

A "Take" On Electronic Rock: The Musical Style of The Taking
First they called themselves Structure.  Then the name changed to Secret Secure.  Now they call themselves The Taking.  Under the current name and banner, this four-piece band from San Antonio, Texas combines elements of electronic music and rock to form a sound their Secret Secure songs were missing – sonic variety.  While songs under the name Secret Secure were good (especially “Lady”), a common criticism I kept hearing from a few listeners is that they all sounded the same.  This criticism was soon silenced in a big way. After some length of time passed and this fou...

The State Of The Musician's Address

The State Of The Musician's Address
Welcome! This is the state of the musician address, by a musician for the music fans.  We have a lot to speak about on this day. The world has changed for us, those that have picked up an instrument or sang in front of a crowd in the last 20 years or so. It is now really hard to sell music, venues have embraced the pay to play system, and nobody knows who is supposed to market the performer now.  The listener does not, in general, want to purchase an album anymore. Ten songs for 10 dollars is too expensive to take a cheap gamble. All that time in a recording studio comes out of a mus...

so, you think you want a dog?

With all the changes I’ve been going through since my ICU visit last October, I do feel like I’m taking control of my life again. Getting up to get things done, cleaning up around the house on a regular basis, and all the things I never cared about or took the time to under my previous lifestyle. Maybe one day I’ll get into my previous lifestyle, but for now let’s just say it was pretty isolationistic (is that a word? Word didn’t mark it so it must be) and keeping to myself. I can’t honestly say that all that is changing but I have gotten to the point where I feel I need a dog around the house...
