Redline Drive - Friction; Deja Vu for the Very First Time

Redline Drive - Friction; Deja Vu for the Very First Time
When you head to a Stryper show, you already know you’re in for a touch of retro. By touch, I mean “welcome to 1980-something for a few hours, we hope you enjoy your stay.” I expected to go “holy hell I heard this back in….” and then conveniently choose to NOT remember anything else out of respect for my ongoing years. What I wasn’t expecting was for the opening act, Dallas’ own Redline Drive , to steal the show. Don’t get me wrong – Stryper was as good as ever and Sweets vocals still going strong. We’ll cover that review in another write up – but for this, all I can say is after just a few so...

tomorrows classics, today - this generation is screwed

tomorrows classics, today - this generation is screwed
classic rock, if you're old enough, is late 60s, early 70s.  led zepplin. rolling stones. the guess who and american woman. who can miss the intro of that song? we even went through a disco phase and rock held on tight. face it - ever see a "classic disco" station? please. even the late 70s and into the 80s rock just went, for lack of a better word, corporate. CORP ROCK SUCKS!!! but looking back it all was but that rock is considered "classic" today. van halen, night ranger, bon jovi, ac/dc, KISS and many more who while some may have roots in the 70s to be sure, their "rock" bled into the...

Sebastian Bach at Trees/Dallas

Sebastian Bach at Trees/Dallas
Sebastian Bach at Trees in Dallas, TX on May 7 was sold out and absolutely phenomenal. But first I would like to talk about the band he is touring with, Santa Cruz. Originally from Finland, their sound rings very much of the Skid Row grit and heavier side of 80s heavy metal. They appeared on the show Breaking Band with Sebastian as their mentor. Saturday night was the last stop of their first tour in Texas. They were great. They have an energizing stage presence and lead singer, Archie Cruz, has a dynamic voice. It is evident they learned a lot from Sebastian and are a perfect match as his sup...

getting cramped up here on facebook...

getting cramped up here on facebook...
a lot has been going on over the last year or more and a lot of it out of new york city. now while a bad place for salsa as any pace commercial will tell you, it's a pretty damn good place for rock and roll and a very supportive scene. our own twisted one took over programming awhile back while i took the 24x7 stream again and focused on the site and just how we do things. it's been pretty obvious in some of the changes mr twisted has done - look at this main pick and check out our facebook page. well and 20 other social media sites. is it me or are those little buggers all over the place? but...

The Art of Illusions by Dark Avenue

The Art of Illusions by Dark Avenue

“Dance with me my darling,” the tall, dapper young man said as he elegantly grasped a soft, delicate hand and kissed it.  Leading his lady of choice onto the empty dance floor in the middle of a crowded ball room, the gentleman places his right hand on her waist and takes her other hand into his left.  As they stare deeply into each other’s eyes, the band begins to play and the couple starts to waltz across the dance floor.  Leading with his left foot, he grasps her firmly at the waist and spins her around, floating effortlessly across the dance floor. By the first full spin acr...

it was 1979 and boston was rockin it

it's 1979 and musical powerhouses such as boston are filling up giants stadium. led zepplin is making instant classics, aerosmith is dreamin on, rolling stones rolling along, AC/DC and hell, if you've been around or have studied the musical past, you'll realize how many bands were out there writing the music that today is about all FM plays. the question then becomes something gene simmons has asked that the answer is varied and "out of focus" really. who are the bands today  that will be "classics" tomorrow? the world is changing and while i will forever think "rock is dead" is overdrama...

royal bliss - carrying the rock and roll torch

royal bliss - carrying the rock and roll torch
Time can be a funny thing. You can be the same “kind” of sound that sold like crazy, oh say 25 years ago or so, but for some reason, it doesn’t sell today. Well, outside Taylor Swift and Adele, what DOES sell today? But let’s put that bit of anger I carry away and focus on the music. You see, the more I dig the more I find rock and roll. The rock and roll train that was so easy to spot did in fact take a head long collision into technology and got scattered in what must have been a “big bang” of its’ own. Where once everything was all wrapped up in a tidy package, it’s gone and it’s now every ...

shock tu, 25 years later...give or take

shock tu, 25 years later...give or take
it was certainly a night no one will forget. at least not those who were there. shock tu, with frontman joey c jones, came together after a 25 year hiatus and for just over an hour, it was like 25 years had never passed. well, except the audiences were older and likely got home before the dawn this time around, but the sound, the strength of joeys vocals was spot on. gas monkey live continues to be the top venue in dallas and if they're coming your way, they will be the best there too. it's what they do. we do have something special hooking up with gas monkey and rock monster radio in the comi...
