Twisted's Top 10 of 2016!

Twisted's Top 10 of 2016!

Hey Everybody!  Every now and again I get around to writing a thing. I most certainly should do so more often, but, reasons. So let's get on with it shall we? For some, 2016 was a Steaming pile of Horseshit. It seemed like everybody lost at least one or two idols with the Grim Reaper claiming so many celebrities. The media catastrophe that was the U.S. Presidential Election stressed everybody out. We won't even bring up Brexit. Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad left a LOT of us hardcore fans disappointed, but they still killed the box office. There were a few good things that came out o...

wrapping up 2016 - best of icepicks and a glance at 2017

wrapping up 2016 - best of icepicks and a glance at 2017
we don't have an official "Renegade Radio" award ceremony and that's one thing we're looking at for this coming year but i'll get to that later. for now i'd just like to go over my best of "best of" so to speak and just call out the ones who i keep going back to time and time through the year. until the last, these are in no specific order. the last of course will be my "best of 2016" but again - i get ahead of myself. :) first up is decembers winner, hell or highwater . my initial high has leveled off some and perhaps come back to earth a touch overall, but there are simply some bad ass songs...

An Evening with Patrick Kennison

An Evening with Patrick Kennison
Most of us go through high school without a clear path ahead but with any luck, some questions answered about what we’d like to do with our time and life. Then again, some people just know early on and have never looked back. “My first band was in middle school” started out Patrick Kennison , front man and creative force behind rock band Heaven Below . “we played half covers, half originals, won several battles and I even won some guitar competitions.” This could well have been cemented in high school by an errant guidance counselor. “By the time I got into high school, I knew what I wanted to...

Why Your Band Gets Looked Over

Why Your Band Gets Looked Over
We are into our 2nd run working with Reverb Nation  in finding new artists to play and promote. Round 1 brought out some MAJOR scored in violet janine , grimmjack , moxie and the influence , and many many more and so much has been added to our rotation. But finding these bands was tough. REAL tough. You've got a lot of crap to get through to find the good stuff and along the way you start to notice why you gloss over some and don't even listen to others and in the end, start to understand in depth as to why you will listen to a song again vs. hope to GOD you can forget that last bands nam...

Tyketto - Reach

Tyketto - Reach
Timing is everything. As cliché as that sounds, it’s true. Looking back on the 80s it’s harder to describe the rise and eventual fall of hair bands and the “copycat” syndrome. Almost any successful band had 2 things happen; the “brand” made a ton of money and the industry went into overdrive to do it again with another band. You like Night Ranger, we’re going to give you more Night Ranger, so to speak. But as a famous author once wrote – Nothing gold can stay. It was 1987 and in many ways, 80s music was at its climax and bands were being pushed out as quickly as they could be found. Howev...

The Twisted One Returns

The Twisted One Returns
I've been working with RenegadeRadio.net now for a bit over 9 years now, in one form or another. I Originally started out Wednesday afternoons back in the summer of 2007, as I was working a 3rd shift job and that seemed like primetime for me.. "Grave Disorder" it was called. Had a decent run, but then had to step away for personal reasons (Because, Life happens.) Came back and started again 12-25-2009. Decided to take over Friday nights. Had another good run, Got to do some really kickass interviews (Including Dommin, Acey Slade, Ville Valo, Rudi Protrudi of The Fuzztones), and then once again...

Heaven Below - Good Morning Apocalypse

Heaven Below - Good Morning Apocalypse

Concept albums are far from new. Most fall short of any individual goal to tell a story more so than just put out an album loosely tied together with the "concept" of a story that doesn't really get told in the album. The most notable examples of these I can remember would include Styx with Mr Roboto and KISS with their hidden gem, The Elder. Now, the list of successful concept albums grows in ranks as  Heaven Below  releases "Good Morning, Apocalypse" and the story of Dr Faust’s (inspired by the German legend of Faust) dealings with the devil in his own struggle with life. I do...

falling in love with violet janine

falling in love with violet janine

One of the best things about music is it lets you fall. in this case with a new release from Swedish rockers Violet Janine  (ja-nine) you're going to fall in love. Lead singer Janine Nyman can certainly hold her own and her soulful edge comes through with emotions she's not even trying to hide. As you make your way though Between Red and Blue you are going to fall in love. time and time again. There are times I want to save the best songs for last but this release makes choosing such things a certain 1st world problem. But hey, the struggle here is real and in the end you're going to decl...
