Lzzy and Lita and Dorothy, Oh My!

Lzzy and Lita and Dorothy, Oh My!
Yes, friends, it was girl’s night out last Thursday at Gas Monkey Live and it frickin rocked!  And I’m not referring to free drinks after 5pm for all the ladies at the bar (although that would have been a nice bonus).  Better yet, I am referring to the fact that last Thursday night was nothing but kick ass female fronted bands the entire evening.  Now that’s something to buy a girl a drink for!   Why? Because even in this day and age, you don’t see a line up like this very often, in particular the rock and metal genres.  Historically, women have taken a back seat to me...

a contest ends, let the music begin

a contest ends, let the music begin
recently we wrapped up our first promotion in conjunction with reverb nation  and in the end over 3500 bands submitted their music for us to consider. no, we've not gone through each and every one as much as i would like to say we have. first and foremost we're a rock station so pop, country, rap, blues and any other format not "close enough" were filtered out just to get us to our own core. even then we had a ton of music to go through, and we still are i promise. more offers went out just this am. all i can tell you is "holy shit". to say we were floored by the response is an under...

Aaron Lee & The Gambling Souls

Aaron Lee & The Gambling Souls

I still remember seeing Aaron Lee for the first time in curtain club in his band paperface and in that brief introduction what stuck out the most was the passion he puts into the music in how he tells the story. The vocals pulled you in, the story kept you around, and the good times you’ll remember in that special place we hold where all good music goes to be remembered over the years. Fortunately there are times moments carry on into days and those days carry on into years and you continue to hear such a person continue to create music and while new, it’s still just as good as the first time ...

Stylin and Profilin - An Evening with Joey C Jones

Stylin and Profilin - An Evening with Joey C Jones

“I was stylin’ and profilin’ in elementary school, and knew what I wanted to do with my life when I was six years old.” said Joey C Jones , kicking back with his feet propped up when asked how it all began. Not many can point to such an age with such conviction but when questioned on how soon Joey knew what would be in store for him, the answer was lightning quick as he finished the thought by adding that his love for the early 70s bubblegum music and the Beatles catalogue dictated what he wanted to do with his life. As the early years went by and Joey was busy developing an early love for ban...

Stryper - Gas Monkey Live

Stryper - Gas Monkey Live
Stryper: Fallen 2016 Tour - Gas Monkey Live 7/1/16 Jessica Kuyawa Stryper played at Gas Monkey Live Friday night as a stop on their Fallen tour. The concert was nearly sold out with over 1600 people in attendance. It got pretty warm inside as the night went on. But, the night was not without a few technical difficulties. First it started with Michael Sweet’s guitar not being loud enough. Instead of stopping and storming off stage, while Oz Fox was playing his solo, Michael went over to the amp and fixed the sound issue. No rants. No anger. Just went on playing the show. During the chorus to “G...

Renegade Nation?

Renegade Nation?
In the culinary world I believe it’s called a “fusion” when you merge 2 ideas into 1. I’m sure in many areas it’s called a lot of things but when not rocking I’m usually feeding my food habit so this is a handy reference to me. J Not long ago the twisted one came to me and said that reverb nation was expanding their reach and working more to help not only artists, but promoters like us. After a few there was nothing to lose, all to gain, and we’re in. we’ll be working on tweaking our page you can find here on Reverb. We will be adding more for local shows in Long Island and If all is going wel...

Redline Drive - Friction; Deja Vu for the Very First Time

Redline Drive - Friction; Deja Vu for the Very First Time
When you head to a Stryper show, you already know you’re in for a touch of retro. By touch, I mean “welcome to 1980-something for a few hours, we hope you enjoy your stay.” I expected to go “holy hell I heard this back in….” and then conveniently choose to NOT remember anything else out of respect for my ongoing years. What I wasn’t expecting was for the opening act, Dallas’ own Redline Drive , to steal the show. Don’t get me wrong – Stryper was as good as ever and Sweets vocals still going strong. We’ll cover that review in another write up – but for this, all I can say is after just a few so...

tomorrows classics, today - this generation is screwed

tomorrows classics, today - this generation is screwed
classic rock, if you're old enough, is late 60s, early 70s.  led zepplin. rolling stones. the guess who and american woman. who can miss the intro of that song? we even went through a disco phase and rock held on tight. face it - ever see a "classic disco" station? please. even the late 70s and into the 80s rock just went, for lack of a better word, corporate. CORP ROCK SUCKS!!! but looking back it all was but that rock is considered "classic" today. van halen, night ranger, bon jovi, ac/dc, KISS and many more who while some may have roots in the 70s to be sure, their "rock" bled into the...
