icepicks - volume 1

icepicks - volume 1
if you've stuck with us for awhile, you know i used to do icepicks with Jeff Duran on FM Los Angeles. it gave me a hell of an opportunity to get bands heard in a major market and we even had Dallas vs LA where we went head to head with LA bands and won. that came and went and while still a good idea, no real place to set it free right now, so i'll steal my name back and put it on a different segment where i just pick 5 bands to show off as i think they've got a world of talent and need to be seen. kinda our entire point of being here, ya know? in this case i'll show off some new bands and brin...

500 street fights

500 fights, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are. this, of course, is from the 2001 film knockaround guys. i wish i could take credit for it but if i did, well yea, i'd personalize it a bit. however, the message is the same when you do just that. twist it a...

nobody wins in this war

nobody wins in this war
it started off innocent enough. we will simply tell our children that they didn't lose, the race was unfair and didn't take their "uniqueness" into account.   we can't celebrate winning anymore because it may hurt those who didn't win and we must consider their feelings. we can't ask them to do more because how do we know the struggles they've already endured?   we can't ask our youth to step up and work because they already work hard doing...something i'm sure. so because you worked at something you're "entitled" to something easy.   winning has become a different shade of losi...

it was 1979 and boston was rockin it

it's 1979 and musical powerhouses such as boston are filling up giants stadium. led zepplin is making instant classics, aerosmith is dreamin on, rolling stones rolling along, AC/DC and hell, if you've been around or have studied the musical past, you'll realize how many bands were out there writing the music that today is about all FM plays. the question then becomes something gene simmons has asked that the answer is varied and "out of focus" really. who are the bands today  that will be "classics" tomorrow? the world is changing and while i will forever think "rock is dead" is overdrama...

jemini i believe got lost in austin recently and was last seen 6 blocks south of 6th street on the 6th house on the left with what was left of a 6 pack of 6oz wine coolers. none of us have any idea what that means but we sure hope she's having, had fun! she works hard out there in the wild documenting petrified poop and sharing the pics on facebook. hey, better than the damn hotdog you ate for lunch you had to show off. come to think of it, they looked kinda about like the same thing... ANYWAY!!!! we're still coming off the shock tu high from last weekend and catching up on things for this sit...

royal bliss - carrying the rock and roll torch

royal bliss - carrying the rock and roll torch
Time can be a funny thing. You can be the same “kind” of sound that sold like crazy, oh say 25 years ago or so, but for some reason, it doesn’t sell today. Well, outside Taylor Swift and Adele, what DOES sell today? But let’s put that bit of anger I carry away and focus on the music. You see, the more I dig the more I find rock and roll. The rock and roll train that was so easy to spot did in fact take a head long collision into technology and got scattered in what must have been a “big bang” of its’ own. Where once everything was all wrapped up in a tidy package, it’s gone and it’s now every ...

shock tu, 25 years later...give or take

shock tu, 25 years later...give or take
it was certainly a night no one will forget. at least not those who were there. shock tu, with frontman joey c jones, came together after a 25 year hiatus and for just over an hour, it was like 25 years had never passed. well, except the audiences were older and likely got home before the dawn this time around, but the sound, the strength of joeys vocals was spot on. gas monkey live continues to be the top venue in dallas and if they're coming your way, they will be the best there too. it's what they do. we do have something special hooking up with gas monkey and rock monster radio in the comi...
