icepicks for february - gone for days, self titled
these days where i find music blurs. label services, itunes, reverbnation contests, and just random submissions to our review process are all ways we come across music, so sometimes it can sit on the back burner and wait. recently while putting together the new stream we'll have up and going at the first of the month, i started listening to more and more "gone for days". guilty pleasure. that's the song. a bit rough on the vocals to fit the style of play, gone for days is pretty removed from "cookie cutter" type music, outside of just being good rock and roll in a time when it's needed most. i...

icepicks january - the temperance movement reviewed
white bear by the temperance movement - someone say capture the 70s? the younger crowd will simply fall for a good sound. the older crowd will be taken back to yesterday when music was a touch raw, had an edge that pulled you into feeling and in a way, set you free from whatever it was you were doing just minutes before that song started. in this case get yourself free is kinda where i ripped off that quote.  :) there is a sense of honesty that other bands have tried to pull off over the years but can't always get away with for one reason or another. in this case the temperance movem...

icepicks december, hell or highwater

i wish you were here for days like thesebut you saw all the world gave you to seesomtimes life just slips awayso shed a tear for the deadremember the legacy they leftfor the time we have left remember the life and not the death i had a lot already written and so close to saying everything i had to say about the band. then this song came on, "remember the life and not the death" and given how this year has taken a toll on our own musical heros and our own personal losses that can never be replaced, everything about this song just made me fall in love with music and my own memories all over...

icepicks - november; saint asonia

ok - in before the 15th so i'm ahead of the game! sorry about missing my show last thursday but the flu was busy taking my ass out. i've coughed up a lot more than i've eaten so i do believe im on the road to recovery and today i actually have the energy to make gross analogies in my opening statements again. I STILL GOT IT!!! now - enough of me. while listening to our own stream i sometimes find bands all over again. while wondering who to tell you about this month i came across saint asonia and fell in love with the lyrics instantly. "Now I'm leaving MinnesotaWould have been nice to hav...

icepicks october - love and a .38

Rock and Roll. I can try to make this a fancy review. I can even try to get "cute" with clever phrases and words found in a lot of reviews. But i'm going to take a cue from Love and a .38 and just come out and say it. Rock and Fucking Roll. There isn't much complex about this band and that would certainly seem intentional and to me making me grateful. You see, they don't get cute, they don't try and "show off" they just bring it, this rock and roll. Don't believe me? Now, do I lie??? Simply put, I love it. Ryan Hudson has a no nonsense attitude and the presence that just commands attenti...
